Why KAC

KAC is the largest manufacturer of manual call points and visual alarm devices in commercial fire & security systems and have had over 45 years of experience within the fire alarm system industry, making them an established brand. KAC was founded in 1972, with 2022 being their 50-year anniversary, they are UK-based with their HQ operating out of Redditch, a town located in north-east Worcestershire. 

The company describes itself as being pioneers of emergency evacuation safety – KAC is actually the inventor of the modern break glass manual call point! In the late 1960s, MCPs were large and the glass had to be broken by hand, hit with an object or came attached with a hammer. When the glass was broke, it spread glass shards all over the user’s hand. Ron Reid, the company’s founder, was a young electrician in 1970 and filed a patent which revolutionised MCPs as we know them today – his design featured a plastic label allowing it to fracture cleanly when pressed, operating a microswitch positioned at the edge and the glass stayed safely in place.

In 1972, KAC, Kidderminster Alarm Company, was born, marketing these modern MCPs. In 1975, the business became known as KAC Alarm Company Limited. Right now, they are manufacturing over 2 million MCPs per year.
